I’ve always had a keen interest in the Financial Markets.  Graduating with a 2.1 in Economics and starting my career with a Global Bank was exciting; it exposed me to great minds, strong systems and complex products.  I have 6 years of Institutional Financial Services experience under my belt at the moment and I have to say it’s been an interesting journey.  I’m now working with the 3rd firm which is very different from the others I’ve been with in terms of size, culture and structure.  Yet my experience and connections have shown me that there are more similarities than differences in the industry.  All firms are inefficient.  There are many loose ends and imperfections all around.  This is driven by the human element in these organizations, not necessarily the process map or spreadsheet in and of themselves, for example.  From back stabbing to gossiping to marginalization, human nature makes itself evident wherever one goes.  I think about this at the moment and realize that this will never change.  This is simply a reflection of the world which is also not perfect.  What matters most is my attitude or what I can control; everything else is beyond me.

I would love to hear any feedback, suggestions or stories about your own journey…
