Who’s Settling?

When it comes to issues of the heart, I notice we are generally very open and expressive about our limited understanding of human relationships.  From our eyes, some couples don’t look like they belong together; call it the beauty and beast syndrome or the hot guy and ugly girl connection.  Usually, there appears to be a mismatch and we feel like someone is settling and the other is punching above his or her weight.  Now beyond the obvious physical or surface difference, an emotional, spiritual bond has been formed.  Both are happy with it; they have accepted a deeper reality and not shallow expectations which usually comes from the media, family, culture etc.  They have decided to value the deeper accordingly and not overly focus on the surface because they see life for what it is and realise they aren’t perfect themselves so they can’t expect perfection from the next.  Sometimes this happens unconsciously, sometimes it doesn’t; however, not being able to truly feel and process these conflicting thoughts and emotions leads to much dreaded separation and heartbreaks, like what is prevalent today.  Like an old couple once said, when things were broken we fixed it, we didn’t throw it away; I think this is slightly because no one felt they were settling.

I would love to hear any feedback, suggestions or stories about your own journey…
