I’ve recently started paying down a mortgage. It’s been 4 months now and I find it quite interesting due to the relative change in my lifestyle and expenses. I’m happy I made the move or long term investment and glad to have a place of my own. Furnishing has been exciting though; from furniture to appliances to decor, selecting the right colour, the right fit and right specification has been a learning experience. Unpacking a vacuum cleaner or building a shelf for example has had me avoiding the manual in an attempt to figure it out for myself. This is solely based on my logic, experience and expectation it will function as I think it should. I’ve quickly learnt that sometimes this isn’t always the best way as using something in a different way from its original design isn’t best. The cost here can be high in terms of financial, time and effort. I find this similar to life as engaging with people outside their true purpose is inefficient and usually never leads to happiness. The popular adage comes to mind – everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. This was a great reminder for me.
I would love to hear any feedback, suggestions or stories about your own journey…
