En route home from work the other day, there was a man on the Northern line begging for change. He spoke of his ill fortune and his desire for financial assistance. He went through the carriages with his hand outstretched expectant; I guess he believed in the good of mankind. A man who sat opposite me was eating a sandwich and dug into his pocket for some change. He gave it to the man and admonished him saying he looked like a healthy man with arms and legs and if he wanted money, he could work for it. The man disagreed and they began to argue about the welfare system, the plight of poor people in London and the available options for those seeking stability. They both got off at Kings Cross Station and continued discussing. I thought about this as the tube continued on. Respect to the man for assisting with change but more so for speaking up about the situation and addressing the man. I think sometimes, we all need someone to tell it to us like it is. Yet we can never accept what we are not ready to receive.
I would love to hear any feedback, suggestions or stories about your own journey…
